Title of Research Study: Handwashing Behavior, Beliefs and Barriers

Investigator: Mark D. Faries, PhD

Why am I being asked to take part in this research study?

We want to know more about adult (18 years or older) handwashing behavior, beliefs and barriers, which will help in developing educational programs in the future.

Why is this research being done?

Proper handwashing is an important health behavior that can help reduce transmission of certain infectious diseases, including COVID-19, yet we know very little about people's current handwashing behavior and beliefs.

How long will the research last?

Completing the survey will take about 5-10 minutes.

What happens if I say “Yes, I want to be in this research”?

You will be asked to complete an anonymous, online survey regarding your personal handwashing behavior, beliefs about and barriers to handwashing.

What happens if I do not want to be in this research?

Completing the survey is voluntary. You can decide not to participate by not proceeding.

Is there any way being in this study could harm me?

There are no sensitive questions in this survey that should cause discomfort. If needed, you may skip any question you do not wish to answer, or exit the survey at any point.

What happens to the information collected for the research?

Survey data will be collected within the secure, Qualtrics system. For more information, visit: https://www.qualtrics.com/security-statement/
